Otitis media

Chronic ear infection

Mastoiditis
-
Congenital anomaly
-
Trauma
-
Vertigo:
- Chronic, recurrent, tinnitus
- Chronic, recurrent, unilateral hearing loss
- Episodic, peripheral, initial exam -
Head trauma- CSF leak suspected
-
Cholesteatoma, pre-operative planning
-
Cochlear implant candidate, pre-operative planning
-
Hearing loss:
- Conductive, no mass in ear, initial exam
- Mixed conductive and sensorineural, initial exam -
Neoplasm with suspected intracranial or inner ear extension, surgical planning

Tinnitus:
- pulsatile, unilateral or bilateral, suspected retrotympanic lesion on otoscopy (may require angiogram if vascular malformation or variant is suspected)
PATIENT PREPARATION

Patient able to lie still for five minutes
-
Not claustrophobic (sedation may be given)
-
Cognitively capable of following basic instructions
-
Metal artefacts removed from the region of interest
-
No respiratory distress when lying supine
